Some Kind of Lesson

During a session with one of my amazingly brilliant clients, I was asked, “why does it seem that there is always some kind of lesson in it with you?”  And wouldn’t you know, immediately I ironically found a few lessons in this question. Part of it was a reminder for me, and the other part is something that I have felt impressed to share.

Back in High School History we were taught, that the reason we study about the past is so we do not repeat the same mistakes. Over the years I have been introduced to various cycles and behavior patterns, we will call The Cycle of Learning.

In this cycle, we see that when things get uncomfortable we are motivated to learn. We may search google, ask a friend, study it, get a mentor, buy a book, take a class, and get on our knees to learn what we need to know. Once we find answers, we begin to put them into practice. We start feeling better. As time goes by, we get comfortable, and feel like we’ve got it down, and sometimes we become unaware, take things for granted, and begin acting like a “Rock Star”. In this state we are self-focused, and self-centered, until something goes wrong, becomes painful, and gets our attention.

Pain can be a great motivator for change.

I have experienced this cycle enough times that I know I would rather be motivated in a pain-free way. So how can we avoid the universe needing to get our attention by providing us with painful lessons?

Here is what that can look like😊

More than our comfort level, the Universe cares about who we are, and who we are becoming in the process. By practicing gratitude, and being teachable we inoculate ourselves to overcome the traps of selfishness, and entitlement. These two ways of being, allow us to stay in awareness so that we can make quick corrections.

What is your perception of the word lesson? In your life have you experienced that most lessons are painful? Funny how words take on personal meanings from the perspectives we individually gather.

I used to think lessons were painful. Now, I believe that lessons can be fun, exciting, enjoyable, rewarding, and even easy. I can also find moments of peace, and joy during growth, while doing hard things.

I have learned that true happiness comes when I prioritize my relationship with God and Self. With this alignment, I can recognize the support of the “Universe” working on my behalf. These are 2 key principles for real progression.

I have learned that resistance and avoidance only make lessons more difficult, whereas by accepting and embracing the lessons, I have found treasures of wisdom and knowledge for my highest good.

To answer the question “why does it seem that there is always some kind of lesson in it with you?” It is because I am striving to be teachable, grateful, and ready to embrace the lessons all around me. I want to recognize, and allow the blessings to easily flow as much as possible through gently lessons.

I am even more grateful that my clients question reminded me that, it is not always about proving ourselves first, or getting it 100% right. Simply believing the Universe will provide for us, is another powerful way that we show our gratitude. We are all loved beyond our full comprehension. Our joy and success is of great importance.

So, with hearts full of gratitude, a teachable disposition, remembering to ask, and being willingly to receive, the cycle of learning can show us how we can find greater happiness in the journey. That is my desire for each of us in this new year.
